Use it when your tops take over at 65 Hz or higher with a Linkwitz-Riley high-pass filter. Gradually reduces rumble below 27 Hz.

Start here, then listen and adjust on site. Relative levels, placement, the room and your speaker combination affect the result.

Linkwitz-Riley low-pass: try tops with an LR high-pass at the same frequency or higher. Relative levels can shift the acoustic crossover; listen and adjust on site.

Filter details and terminology

Low-cut (high-pass): Gradually reduces output toward lower frequencies. The response is already reduced at its cutoff; it does not stop abruptly there.
Upper crossover (low-pass): Gradually reduces output toward higher frequencies. Subwoofer and top responses overlap around the crossover.
Linkwitz-Riley (LR): A recommended starting point for the sub/top crossover. For a top's LR high-pass, try a sub's LR low-pass at the same frequency or lower. For a sub's LR low-pass, try a top's LR high-pass at the same frequency or higher. Verify the combination on site.
Butterworth (BW): A maximally flat passband with less attenuation around the cutoff than a Linkwitz-Riley filter of the same order. Lower-frequency BW high-pass presets are useful for full-range bass extension. Start with LR presets for a sub/top crossover.

PRESET 01: Cardioid · rear-facing cabinet

Reduce bass behind the system.

A cardioid setup uses forward- and rear-facing cabinets to reduce rearward bass. Apply the cardioid preset to the cabinet facing away from the audience. BASSBOSS recommends two forward-facing cabinets for each rear-facing cabinet. Placement, spacing, frequency and relative levels affect the result.

Arrange the cabinets.

Start with BASSBOSS’s recommended two-forward, one-rear configuration and the model’s setup guidance.

Set the rear-facing cabinet.

Select the appropriate cardioid preset on that cabinet. Use the appropriate forward-facing presets on the other cabinets.

Check the result.

Listen and measure in front of and behind the system, then adjust the setup as needed.

Illustrative cardioid coverage: more bass toward the audience and reduced output behind the array. Actual coverage depends on the setup.
